This time we're going over site surveying. FUN... not so much. But it has to be done as part of the process to obtain building consent & piece of mind that you are following the correct council regulations, informing a better built environment for yourself and your project team. If possible, we would recommend obtaining a site survey for your property prior to purchasing a cabin so you can fast track the consent process and delivery.

What is a TOPOGRAPHIC SITE SURVEY?
A site survey forms the basis of for any development on a site and determines the legal boundaries of the property as well as detailed data on what the site looks like. This is done by using boundary pegging to capture all features required for development.

The first step in completing a site survey is establishing the location and researching the title, old surveys, and any restrictions. Once this is done, the field work begins and the boundary + height datum information is then determined. From the site survey, a plan is produced by the surveyors who will provide precise calculations, quality checks, certifications (for the council) and drawings. The drawings provided will detail;
- Terrain & contours
- Road & paved areas
- Building footprint & levels
- Fencing & existing utilities
- Tree & vegetation including drip lines
- Legal boundaries

What does a site survey cost?
A really great resource that goes over the pricing for a site survey for different types of land can be found on survplanz or surveying services. Averaging around $1200 to $3000 depending on the terrain and features of your site.
